We Build For Success

Pomen Laut Projects is a pioneering initiative that introduces Malaysia’s first Marine Fablab, specifically designed to uplift rural fishing communities.

We provide an open-access marine workshop fully equipped with professional tools — where fishermen can learn, repair, and maintain their own boat engines via a DIY approach with expert guidance.

More than just a workshop, we function as a grassroots technical training hub. Here, fishermen and coastal youth can attend high-quality courses in engine maintenance, workplace safety, and marine technology — all delivered by certified instructors aligned with international maritime standards.

We Build For People

Pomen Laut is more than a technical project — it’s a social movement. Our mission is to restore dignity to fishing communities who have long been overlooked, and position them as skilled professionals who are vital to the nation’s maritime economy.

Our Vision:

To be a key catalyst in transforming the small-scale marine sector through open innovation, hands-on training, and accessible technology — while uplifting the dignity and professionalism of fishing communities in Malaysia and the region.

The Founder

Azlan bin Muhamad (a.k.a. “Jojo”) is a certified Marine Engineer with a Certificate of Competency Class 1 (Unlimited) issued by the Marine Department of Malaysia. Since beginning his professional sailing career in 2006, he has gained extensive experience aboard vessels operating under the flags of Malaysia, the USA, Singapore, and Abu Dhabi. He currently serves as Chief Engineer on a DP2 Diving Support Vessel, bringing a wealth of technical expertise and global maritime knowledge to every voyage.

Driven by a passion to give back, Jojo founded Pomen Laut Services, a Bumiputera-led initiative creating Malaysia’s first community-based Marine FabLab. It provides fishermen and youth with tools, space, and mentorship to build skills in boat repair and marine-based livelihoods.
